“Whatever you do take our advice and base your trip to this beautiful region from Nimbin. The Nimbin experience is a unique one – not found anywhere else in the world. Give it time to happen!”
From the covenient base of our accomodation in Nimbin, Grey Gum Lodge, there are so many options for the visitor to the region to explore the majestic beauty of the beautiful Northern Rivers. From the towering old growth forests of Protestors Falls to the sprawling majesty of the Border Ranges as viewed from atop Mt Warning – the day trip possibilities are endless. Funky markets such as the one we host in Nimbin and those at Brunswick Heads, Byron Bay, Bangalow, Lismore and most fantastic of all the famous Craft Market at The Channon; which is the largest in New South Wales and offers a day out that few markets anywhere could beat, And just a short beautiful drive from your budget accomodation in Nimbin; Grey Gum Lodge – which means of course that you have plenty of ‘coin’ left over for the hand crafted treasures on offer there, which have been crafted by local artisans, artists and carpenters. Or if you wish how about seizing the opportunties on offer for that long overdue massage before sampling the available food which has been prepared from locally grown organic produce and turned into dishes that originate from Vietnam to the Yemen. All enjoyed to a background of lively outdoor performance and local colour. If you’re lucky you might even notice a sleepy Koala trying to get some shut eye on one of the towering Eucalypt branches above this hive of activity!
For all our Gay and Lesbian visitors, the Rainbow Region is also famous for its very own Tropical Fruits. The largest Gay social group in rural Australia. This group holds monthly dances in Lismore called ‘Delicious’ and asides from its big New Year Festival which sees its own film festival, art exhibitions and Tropical Fruits New Years Eve Party; The Tropical Fruits also host several dances held in the many small local halls that are dotted around the Northen Rivers – and usually just a small drive from your Gay Owned and Operated Grey Gum Lodge Nimbin.
For the Gay and Lesbian traveller there is so much to do here and indeed this region is fortunate to boast the largest rural population of gays and Lesbians in Australia – and therefore a hub of Queer Culture that we are rightly very proud of.
Darren and Stu know all the local attractions for the Gay Traveller to Nimbin and the Northern Rivers and North coast.
